About Wild Web Africa

Wim and Magdel

Wim and Magdel Vorster are the owners and operators of Wild Web Africa.

Wild Web Africa is the brain child of Wim and it’s been in the planning & development phase for the last few years, but not anymore!

Wild Web Africa’s purpose is to educate, inform and create a greater awareness of the African wildlife experience through an easy to use, attractive and up to date website maintained by wildlife experts.

Wild Web Africa is aiming to be a leader and authority on African wildlife and ecology, furthering wildlife education, supporting wildlife research and conservation efforts as well as helping people around the world experience Africa’s natural heritage to the full, be it in digital format or via real-life experiences.

We are keen wildlife naturalists and are very passionate about nature & wildlife.

After finishing school in Pretoria, Wim undertook his National diploma in Nature Conservation at the Tshwane University of Technology (then Pretoria Technikon). He did his “in-service” training in the Natal midlands, Timbavati Private Game Reserve and the National Zoological gardens of South Africa..

Keen to continue with his studies Wim then completed his B-tech degree in Nature conservation. Intrigued by the secretive brown hyaena (Hyaena brunnea) Wim chose its social structure and feeding ecology as the topic for his research project.

Starting work at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve bordering the world famous Kruger National Park as a field guide, Wim was further promoted as Head ranger at Earth Lodge. During his stay at Sabi Sabi Wim completed his Field Guides Association of southern Africa’s (FGASA) level 1, 2 & 3 qualifications and discovered a true passion for predators & wildlife photography.

Magdel Vorster

Fresh out of school Magdel took up studies in marketing and photography while she managed a photographic lab in Pretoria, and that’s also where she met Wim. Due to her upbringing on “bush” schools in South Africa, and her love for photography she and Wim shared a common interest & passion for the outdoors. Without hesitating she joined him as a field guide at the world famous Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve where she  fine-tuned her passion for photography and also completed her FGASA level 1 qualification.

Wim and Magdel then joined Thanda private game reserve in northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, where Wim held the position of Safari manager and Magdel as Assistant lodge manager. They had a challenging time of getting a relatively new establishment of to a great start.

In 2006 they moved to Botswana’s Okavango Delta to work for Sanctuary Lodges as camp managers, eventually returning to the concrete jungle of Pretoria during 2007.

By being back in Pretoria for a few years, Wim decided to continue his studies on the brown hyaenas on Rietvlei nature reserve just outside the city, and is currently working on his master’s thesis on these secretive nocturnal scavengers.
Magdel is getting herself qualified in graphic design and website development.

Both of them have a keen interest in bird watching, animal behaviour and are passionate travelers & wildlife photographers.
